NED Mourns the loss of Edward Donley

The Board of Directors and staff of the National Endowment for Democracy were deeply saddened to learn the news of the passing of former NED Board member Edward Donley, who died on April 1, 2017 at the age of 95.  Mr. Donley, a business leader and philanthropist from the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania was the longtime president, chairman, and CEO of Air Products, Inc.   Donley served on the NED Board of Directors from 1991-2000  and served as the chairman of the Endowment’s Budget and Audit Committee.

“Everyone who worked with Ed Donley during his nine years of service on the NED board remembers him as a great gentleman,” said NED president Carl Gershman. “He was a man of immense integrity, wise judgment, and deep commitment to the principles of human freedom and social responsibility.  The NED is a stronger institution because of his service.  We mourn  his passing and remember him with great fondness, gratitude, and respect.”

The entire NED family extends its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Edward Donley, and to all those who benefitted from his generous spirit and wise counsel.
