Protecting the Civic Space through Youth Economic Engagement and Women’s Business Advocacy
Public Summary: To preserve civil society efforts to promote anti-corruption practices and better governance in local government procurement; to enhance youth civic participation in economic development issues at local and national levels; and to strengthen the institutional capacity of a women’s business association to better advocate for and amplify the voices of women entrepreneurs. The Center will work with local partners to engage youth in anti-corruption programs through public procurement monitoring, enhance youth activism on economic development, and support a local women’s business association to build capacity.
Strengthening the Capacity of Youth Activists to Promote Democracy
Public Summary: To enhance the capacity of young activists in Cambodia to advance democratic ideals and human rights. The organization will provide legal and media trainings and support youth-led creation of digital media content aiming to shed light on democracy and human rights issues in their communities. The organization will also regularly convene emerging youth activists to strengthen solidarity, collaboration, and network building.
Freedom of Information
Promoting Democracy and Freedom of Expression in Cambodia
Public Summary: To enhance access to independent news and information about human rights and democracy issues in Cambodia. The organization will produce multi-format, participatory radio programs that seek to provide timely news and analysis to the Cambodian public on key democratic issues in the country. The organization will also emphasize the importance of fact-based news by fact-checking news articles submitted by the public and produce short articles or videos to explain the fact-checking process.
Encouraging Political Participation Among Youth
Public Summary: To equip Cambodian youth with knowledge on democratic values and ideals, and to enhance their participation in local political processes. Project activities will aim to increase the participation of Cambodian youth in democratic discourse and processes, and provide capacity building trainings to improve their knowledge of democracy and human rights, as well as opportunities for youth to design and implement their advocacy projects at the local level.
Freedom of Information
Public Summary: To defend press freedom and freedom of information, and to provide independent news to Cambodian citizens. Project activities will include publishing a daily online Khmer-language newspaper to provide accurate and independent news and analysis and hosting a daily live talk show to debate issues facing Cambodia’s democracy and human rights.
Rule of Law
Promoting the Rule of Law and Fair Trial Rights Among Youth
Public Summary: To encourage engagement on human rights issues and enhance understanding of the rule of law among Cambodian youth. Project activities will include a capacity building program for law students on fair trial rights through training and participation in court monitoring. In addition, the project will provide mentorship opportunities with experts in the human rights and legal fields.
Cultivating Democratic Leadership Among Youth
Public Summary: To strengthen the capacity of young Cambodians to participate in democratic discourse and provide opportunities for them to develop their roles in cultivating democratic values and processes. The project will educate youth on democratic institutions and processes, and provide training to enhance their research, political analysis, and writing skills. The project will also provide opportunities for youth to produce commentary on key issues affecting democracy and human rights, as well as to discuss democratic challenges and possible solutions.
Rule of Law
Bolstering Human Rights Protection and Access to Justice
Public Summary: To enhance the capacity of and access to justice for land and natural resource rights defenders and victims in Cambodia. The project will provide democracy and legal training for community members and activists affected by land rights issues. It will also provide legal support and dispute resolution opportunities for affected communities and individuals who are at risk of charges, arrest, and detention as a result of their land and natural resource rights activism.
