Revolutionary Media in Burma

Burma reporters risk all to broadcast independent news

The Burmese government’s brutal crackdown on the monk-led “Saffron Revolution” sought to silence opposition voices. But the Democratic Voice of Burma is risking everything to make sure new ideas are heard through independent media.

In this episode of Democracy Stories, Khin Maung Win, executive director of Democratic Voice of Burma, describes how his group works in exile in Thailand and Norway to broadcast free and independent news stories to 10 million viewers in Burma. DVB reporters also operate secretly inside Burma at great risk – with some of them now in prison for their efforts. NED has been a consistent supporter of DVB over the past decade.
