Kristin Smith
Technical Advisor, American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative
Kristin Smith is a Technical Advisor on International Criminal Justice with the American Bar Association’s Rule of Law Initiative, where she works on strategic programs to advance atrocity prevention and accountability globally. Within the ABA, she also directs the Atrocity Crimes Initiative (ABA Center for Human Rights) a group of law and policy projects aimed at strengthening international criminal law frameworks and institutions, including the International Criminal Court and laws on atrocity prevention and crimes against humanity. Prior to the ABA, she was a Legal Fellow at the Global Justice Center in New York where she worked on gender justice issues and contributed to a comprehensive gender analysis of atrocity crimes committed against the Rohingya in Myanmar. She also previously supported the Crimes Against Humanity Initiative as a Fellow with the Whitney R. Harris World Law Institute at Washington University School of Law. She began her legal career as a legislative analyst and criminal prosecutor in Oregon. She has a BA from the University of Notre Dame in American Studies and Studio Art, and JD from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law. She is originally from Wisconsin.
