Michelle Schein

Michelle Schein was appointed to the Biden-Harris Administration in 2023, where she serves as Congressional Advisor in the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues at the U.S. Department of State. She previously served as Senior Foreign Policy Advisor in the Office of Congresswoman Grace Meng, a senior member of the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, where she covered foreign affairs, defense, veterans, among other issues. In her time as Senior Foreign Policy Advisor, Michelle successfully increased funding by $75 million to implement the U.S. Strategy to Prevent and Respond to Gender-Based Violence Globally and passed into law the Refugee Sanitation Facility Safety Act, ensuring that the U.S. works to include separate, well-lit restrooms for women and girls in refugee camps. Previously, Michelle served as Legislative Assistant in the Office of Congressman Brad Sherman, member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Michelle also previously served as Staff Associate on the Asia, Pacific, and Nonproliferation Subcommittee under the Chairmanship of Congressman Brad Sherman. Before coming to Capitol Hill, Michelle worked for the Rhode Island Democratic Party, helping to elect Democratic candidates up and down the ticket. Michelle received a MA in Defense and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College and a BA in International Relations from Brown University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude.
