Stephanie Sepúlveda

Specialist on Immigration and Labor, AFL-CIO

Stephanie Sepúlveda is the Specialist on Immigration and Labor at the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), the largest federation of labor unions in the United States made up of 60 national and international unions that represent 12.5 million workers. In this role she focuses on policy and programmatic work at the intersection of labor and immigration policy in the United States and globally. She collaborates with unions, community groups, and international partners to ensure that workers’ interests are represented in domestic and global spaces, and to advocate for sustainable, rights-based solutions that protect the fundamental rights of all working people—no matter where they live or where they are from. Born in Venezuela, her own experiences as an immigrant shaped her interest in immigration policy. She has conducted research in the Americas, Europe, and Asia with a special focus on rule of law, historically marginalized populations, and migrant and refugee rights. Stephanie holds undergraduate degrees in International Relations and Communication from Florida International University, as well as a Master’s degree in International Relations and Economics from The Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
