Opinion Polls to Track Public Perception on Government Policies

To identify public perception on political, economic, and social issues ahead of the presidential election to ensure citizens’ opinions are incorporated in policy formulation. The organization will conduct nationwide public opinion polls on issues that are likely to influence the choices of electorates in the next presidential election, strengthen the capacity journalists to report with precision the findings, and conduct dissemination campaigns around the findings through infographics, animation videos, social media.

Promoting responsive and transparent policies through increased participation of youth and women in local governance.

To enable citizens to participate meaningfully in local policy formulation and promote government accountability. The organization will host dialogues between citizens and lawmakers on country development needs, citizens’ priorities and discuss the role of parliamentarians. The project will also enable youth and women to monitor the implementation of the national budget. The organization will host forums among women leaders in government, civil society, and the private sector to explore opportunities for collaboration aimed at removing obstacles to their participation in governance.

Gambia Centre for Victims of Human Rights Violations

Advocating for Access to Justice and Reparations for Victims of Human Rights Violations

To mobilize Gambian citizens on the transitional justice process to ensure the respect of victims’ rights to reparations and justice. The organization will engage relevant stakeholders on the Truth Reconciliation and Reparation Commission’s reports and solicit their support for the implementation of the commission’s recommendations. The organization will also engage local communities to promote reconciliation and enhance national unity and will produce and air TV and radio talk shows to raise citizens’ awareness on key recommendations of the TRRC.

International Center for Transitional Justice

Supporting the Active Participation of Women and Youth in the Transitional Justice Process and the Promotion of their Rights

To empower women victims of human rights abuses to advance women’s rights and their demands for reparations and reforms and maintain the transitional justice process on the political agenda during the presidential election. The organization will collaborate with local women and youth organizations and media practitioners to develop strategies to engage policymakers on reparations policies, accountability, and reforms of the judiciary and raise public awareness on women’s experiences of abuses and women’s rights.

National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)

Strengthening Civil Society Capacity to Observe Election Processes

To enhance the integrity of upcoming electoral processes in The Gambia, the Institute will strengthen the capacity of Gambian civil society to monitor elections and political reform processes. The Institute will work with the Peace Ambassadors – The Gambia (PAG) to develop a coordination mechanism among civil society actors and convene regular stakeholder meetings on electoral preparations and reforms. To enhance their ability to deploy more systematic election observation methods, the Institute will organize capacity building and coaching sessions with PAG on developing a strategic plan, applying tools and strategies in their observation efforts, and enhancing their external communications. The Institute will support PAG to apply these methods through observing the voter registration exercise and the ongoing electoral reforms process.

To produce high quality, in-depth media reports to enable citizens to make informed choices during the upcoming presidential and legislative elections in The Gambia. The group will conduct capacity trainings for journalists on election reporting, safety, and assessing election related information. In addition to producing media reports about the electoral process and policy briefs on election-related issues, the group will research media coverage of the election and the contribution of digital technologies to credible elections to inform policy and advocacy towards the consolidation of democracy.
