Andrea Fiegl

Foreign Service Officer, U.S. Agency for International Development

Andrea Sawka Fiegl is a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), where she is currently on long-term assignment to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. In over 10 years with USAID, she has lived and worked in Jordan/Syria, Burma, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Washington, D.C. Her areas of expertise include: human rights, democracy, political transitions, and post-conflict stabilization.  Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Andrea’s international experience included work in Central America, Asia, and Africa with USAID; the World Bank Group; and as a community development volunteer. She holds a Master of Arts in International Affairs and a certificate in Refugees and Complex Humanitarian Emergencies from Georgetown University. Her undergraduate degree is in American Literature. Before entering the field of international affairs, Andrea worked as a dance instructor, an editor of a literary journal, and then an Aide to Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the U.S. Supreme Court.
