National Security Advisor, Senator Joni Ernst

Nic Adams serves as National Security Advisor for Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA). Previously, Nic served as the Military Legislative Assistant to Congressman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), who represents the second congressional district of Ohio. His portfolio included defense, intelligence, foreign affairs, energy, science, space, and technology. He drafted legislation that was included in the National Defense Authorization Act for FY2019 to improve medical readiness and training for deploying service members, and provided policy advice to the congressman for staff delegations to Qatar, Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia. He was a commissioned officer in the United States Army, deploying several times to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and to Jordan and Iraq in the Global War on Terror. After ten years on active duty, Nic transitioned to the Army Reserve. He has a B.S. in Political Science from Boise State University, and a Master of International Public Policy from the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies. He recently participated in Partnership for a Secure America’s Congressional Partnership Program 2018.
