Steven Howard

Director of Policy and Outreach, American Task Force on Lebanon

Steven Howard is the Director of Policy and Outreach at the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL),  a non-governmental organization made up of prominent Americans of Lebanese heritage who work to strengthen the historic ties between the United States and Lebanon. With ATFL, Steven spearheads the organization’s Congressional outreach where he educates Members of Congress and Congressional staff on current issues in Lebanon and the broader Middle East. He also plays a central role in the Lebanon Working Group, a partnership between ATFL and the Middle East Institute, where he works to facilitate consensus amongst diverse voices on Middle East policy as part of an ongoing policy paper series. Prior to joining ATFL, Steven advocated for religious freedom in the Middle East with In Defense of Christians where he worked to secure US recognition of the Armenian Genocide and increased humanitarian assistance for survivors of the genocide committed by ISIS against religious minorities in Iraq and Syria. Steven is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Morocco: 2015-17) who focused his service on empowering local changemakers to establish community libraries and promote global citizenship. He earned an M.A. in Human Rights from the Catholic University of America and a B.A. in Political Science from Azusa Pacific University. Beyond foreign policy, Steven is committed to promoting a healthier political culture in the US. To this end, he is also a 2022 fellow with the And (&) Campaign’s Christian Civic Leadership Academy. He is a proud husband and girl-dad to Chisomo and Novahiwa.
