Solidarity Center (SC)

Building Union Capacity to Democratically Represent Workers

$775,000

To address the challenges that Haitian workers face at the workplace and in their communities and, more broadly, as citizens impacted by the deepening political and economic crisis, unions and other worker organizations must effectively harness worker demand for improved labor and living conditions, strong institutions, and the rule of law. In this context, the Center will continue to support garment sector unions to improve their capacity to organize workers and represent their issues. The Center will build this capacity by implementing basic labor rights training for garment and informal sector workers, funding regular advocacy planning meetings for garment sector unions, issuing subawards to two garment sector unions and facilitating an exchange of best practices with Haitian American unionists.
